Vietnam e-visa in 2026: fees, timing and how to apply

Who needs a Vietnam e-visa?

Since 15 August 2023, citizens of every country and territory can apply for a Vietnam e-visa. Some nationalities can enter visa-free for a shorter stay instead. This includes the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, the Nordic countries, a growing list of other European countries, and most ASEAN countries. Visa-free stays are shorter than 90 days and the rules change from time to time, so check before you book.

Even if you can enter visa-free, an e-visa makes sense if you want to stay longer or leave and come back during your trip.

How long does it take?

Vietnam Immigration usually processes e-visas in a few business days. Allow 7–10 working days to be safe, and more around public holidays such as Tet (Lunar New Year). If you fly sooner, an urgent service can get your result faster.

What you need

• A passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date
• A clear photo of your passport data page
• A recent portrait photo: facing the camera, plain light background, no glasses
• Your planned entry and exit dates (maximum 90 days)
• The airport, land border or seaport where you'll enter

How to apply

Option 1: apply yourself on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn. You pay only the government fee. Double-check every field, because mistakes are common and fixing them later costs time and money.

Can I extend it?

Generally, an e-visa can't be extended from inside Vietnam. To stay longer, you leave and apply for a new e-visa, or move to a visa type designed for longer stays.
