Vietnam e-visa "Requires additional information": what it means

In short: Vietnam Immigration sends a "Requires additional information" email when something on your application must be fixed before it can continue, for example when the passport image or the portrait photo isn't clear. Re-upload exactly what they ask for on evisa.gov.vn. If you've re-uploaded and it still says "processing" and you fly soon, send me your e-visa code and email and I can speed it up. If the email is about your name or passport number, you need a new application instead.

What the email asks for, and what to do

The email is aboutWhat to do
Passport image not clearRe-upload a sharp photo of the information page: all four corners visible, no glare, the two lines at the bottom readable
Portrait photo not clearRe-upload a new portrait: plain white background, face straight on, no glasses, no shadows
Full name incorrect (as in ICAO line)Can't be fixed on this application. Submit a new one
Passport number wrongCan't be fixed on this application. Submit a new one

How to respond, step by step

  1. Read the email carefully and note exactly which item it mentions: the passport image, the portrait, or a detail such as the name.
  2. Prepare a new image that follows the photo requirements. A phone photo against a white wall is fine for the portrait; for the passport page, avoid lamps and fingers over the text.
  3. Open your application on evisa.gov.vn with your registration code (it starts with E) and the email you used.
  4. Re-upload exactly what they ask for, and nothing else.
  5. Check the status again afterwards. If it still says "processing" and your flight is close, message me.

Don't submit a second application for a photo problem. A second application for the same passport usually makes things slower, not faster. The only exceptions are a wrong name or a wrong passport number, which can't be fixed on the same application.

Re-uploaded and still "processing"?

If you've re-uploaded what Immigration asked for and your status hasn't moved, send me on WhatsApp your e-visa code and the email address you used on the application, together with your flight date and time. I can speed it up. You pay only my service fee, because you already paid the government fee. More on speeding up a pending e-visa.

If you're flying soon

The official processing time on evisa.gov.vn is 3 working days, often longer in practice, and an application waiting for additional information can take longer still. Speed-up service fees run from $39 for 3 working days to $199 for 1 hour or the weekend emergency; the government fee is already paid. Times are in Vietnam time, and working days are Monday to Friday.

Result guaranteed by the time you choose (approval or refusal) — Vietnam Immigration makes the decision. If a sped-up application is refused, I refund my service fee in full.

Flying before the result? You get a free check-in letter, usually ready in about 10 minutes. See all urgent options, or what to do if you fly tomorrow.

FAQ

Does "Requires additional information" mean my e-visa is refused?

No. It means something on your application must be fixed before it can go any further, for example a passport image or portrait photo that isn't clear. Re-upload exactly what the email asks for on evisa.gov.vn.

Should I submit a new application?

Not for an unclear photo or passport image: re-upload it on the application you already have. Only if the email is about your name or passport number do you need a new application.

I re-uploaded and it still says "processing". What can I do?

If your flight is close, send Paul your e-visa code and the email address you used on the application. He can speed it up. You pay only the service fee, because the government fee is already paid.

How do I know what to re-upload?

The email names what is missing or unclear. Re-upload only that, following the photo rules: a portrait with a plain white background and no glasses, and a passport page with all four corners and the two lines at the bottom readable.
